Description One look at Pollux and Castor, and it’s clear they aren’t ordinary. The two are Eevees, and appear to be fairly young ones. Like most Eevee, they stand at about a foot (because most Eevees evolve before they grow larger), and have the same basic body build – four legs with stubby paws, bushy tails, a lot of fur, a fluffy mane, two eyes, a nose, a mouth, and a pair of long, pointed ears. Admittedly, their teeth are pretty pointed and sharp. Beyond that, the similarity ends. Their fur is mainly white, with various and to be quite honest, unnatural markings of different colors (for Pollux, more thick and simplistic dark blue markings with crimson accents, while Castor’s are more pointed and intricate deep red markings with navy accents). All of which would take too long to describe in detail so we won’t. They share an eye “color”, though the singular is misleading – both their eyes (as in, all four of them) are blue and red, the colors blending together somewhere between the pupils vertically.
The actually observant will notice some things that set the twins off (even further) from normal Eevees. For starters, they are chained together by their forepaws (Pollux’s right, Castor’s left). The chain is some kind of weird, possibly crystalline material that, like the twins, is dual-colored – red on Pollux’s end, blue on Castor’s. However, being chained together does not affect the twins much – for starters, the chain seems to stretch and contract again when they require it, though they are never really apart. Like the twins, it also has no substance, at least, not to the living and their world. Although those who do know the twins are psychopomps have an explanation for their intangibility, no one is quite sure why they’re chained together, as they have been since… uh, death. It has been speculated their bond is just that freakin’ strong the universe felt obligated to materialize some kind of symbol of it. Also, some people claim they are way too frickin’ cute, but that’d more a matter of personal opinion.
In case you were too lazy to read that or were confused by it (and I do not blame you), picture by Bunny here, in which Pollux is the one with more blue and the red chain while Castor has more red markings and the blue chain.
Gift Pollux and Castor are psychopomps – as in, the kind that escorts the souls of the dead to whatever afterlife or lack of that may be waiting for them. Their “gift” is the ability to hunt down dead souls and smack them around until they agree to come with them. Unfortunately the twins are rather young and incompetent. Their status as psychopomps has also seemed to screw over nature, giving the Normal/Dragon Eevee twins some oddly ghostlike abilities that are somewhat of a requirement for their job – the ability to use shadows as a method of teleportation, for example. The ability to influence the world of the living despite being irreparably dead. The ability to decide who may or may not see and speak with them (unless that someone is a strong psychic/ghost/dark/medium/whatever, in which case they really can’t hide). The ability to “heal” from any damage they may sustain through sheer force of will (okay that one doesn’t count since they technically don’t have bodies but whatever). The ability to annoy the hell out of anyone they please – okay so I lied there, that one’s a natural ability of theirs. Basically they have a lot of abilities. However, they cannot physically harm or affect the living at all, which is probably why their ability to annoy is so good – a natural defense mechanism to drive people to suicide just to make them SHUT UP.
Talent(s) They are unexpectedly good at combat for a pair of dead toddler ghosts. Or… yanno. Whatever they are. Unfortunately they are also rather immature and easily distracted but that is not the point here.
Personality For starters, Pollux and Castor are inanely peppy for dead people. Well, mainly Castor, who is incredibly cheerful and nice in general. Castor is kind of dimwitted and naïve, which most people find endearing. Unless they have managed to severely annoy Castor, at which points he starts pulling out pyrotechnics and glowy eyes of doom. And stuff. The exception to this is his twin, who will occasionally find Castor cute but more often finds him stupid and smacks him over the head. Pollux has no qualms with doing so because he can’t really kill Castor’s brain cells as it is. It should be stressed that Castor is not dumb – he just is really lazy and doesn’t want to think.
On the other hand, Pollux is somewhat snarky and may or may not hate the world (he tends to change his opinion every three days or so, and most have given up trying to convince him to pick one and stick with it). Pollux is the more intellectual of the two, and is frequently annoyed by Castor’s friendliness and lack of common sense. Pollux is not exactly quick to anger, but he will react to what he sees as even the slightest insult with biting sarcasm. Violence is also common, assuming he can actually physically affect whatever is annoying him. While less physically powerful than Castor, Pollux is more than cunning enough to make up for it. He usually keeps Castor in check and not running off to chase pretty butterflies or beating up whoever insulted them (though at those points, it is more common for Pollux to help).
As to any shared personality traits, suffice to say that Pollux and Castor, however competent they may (or may not) be, are both still children. They are quick to anger and assume, and just as quick to forget when offered something shiny or otherwise distracting. They are both very empathetic and rather boisterous, and have a history of ignoring authorities for their amusement. Their sense of responsibility is somewhat lacking, though when they do want to do something, they give it their all and usually do it by sheer perseverance/inane stubbornness (well, if they don’t give up out of boredom halfway through). They have a strong moral code, mostly that mistreating others is bad and anyone who does so should be hit over the head. Repeatedly. They also have a strong mischievous/playful streak, and dislike being treated like children (no matter how much they deserve it). Basically, they’re good people, just kids too.
History Okay to begin with they were born (noshit). Except the thing is their mother really couldn’t keep them and their father didn’t want to bother (because he was and still is a psychopath/sociopath/fucked in the head), so he took them and threw them into a river and waited for them to drown. And they did. Unlike most people, their stories did not end there. Their souls/ghosts/whatevers were found by the psychopomp of that region, who thought they were bloody adorable and nagged her boss to let her keep them, who agreed on the condition they become psychopomps as well. So yeah.
The psychopomp, who had once been an Azumarill named Tullia, pretty much raised and named the twins, because she happened to be somewhat predictable with names. Through a long process of trial and error, their types and various attacks were identified, and Tullia taught them how to fight in order to best capitalize on them. More importantly, she introduced them to the psychopomp world – hunting down souls, reclaiming them, not being seen, all that. Unfortunately, they matured even more slowly than normal Eevees. Being dead probably had something to do with it. Although Pollux and Castor loved Tullia as a mother, being respectful or obedient was just not in their nature. They were also rather irresponsible and irrelevant in general, constantly getting into mischief despite being unable to interact with most of the world.
Eventually, Tullia’s boss got sick of her babying the twins and kicked them out of her general area, reassigning them to Sootopolis. This did not bother Pollux and Castor much, and they proceeded to run around the city like the brats they were. Although they never interfered with the, ahem, “politics” of the locals, Pollux and Castor were and still are easily sidetracked from their duties. Still, they fulfill the quotas and eventually shepherd all the souls/ghosts/whatevers into whatever they deserve, and generally manage well for a pair of immature psychopomps, so they’re left alone to manage.
Other Dead. Dead. Dead. Also, their typing, as mentioned earlier, is Normal/Dragon. Pollux, however, has an affinity towards water, and Castor towards fire. Also they are both psychopomps, so they are usually unable to interact physically with the living at all, making them seem somewhat Ghostlike but turned up to eleven. Also a lot of inspiration taken from Re_birthday.
... also I so did not pull most of this out of my ass. -/lies-
