Name: “Magnalium”, so she claims. Usually shortened to Nali. Species: Charizard Gender: Female Faction: Fireworks Gang Ability: Blaze Hold item: Life Orb [imbedded in her forehead] Moves: Sunny Day, Solarbeam, Flamethrower, Dragon Pulse, Hyper Beam, Thunderpunch, Flare Blitz, Outrage, Focus Punch, Belly Drum
Description For starters, Miss Nali does not look much like a Charizard. At all. Although being reptilian/draconic and firey and all that, the only part of Nali that really identifies her as a Charizard is her head – and not in color, but we’ll get to that in a moment. It’s the draconic features and dual horns. Also the longish fangs, that might help. Nali’s build is more similar to a Salamence’s, but even more wiry. Some freak mutation caused Nali to develop her front legs longer and stronger, and her back legs also become longer and distributed her weight more evenly with her front legs and tail, making them appear less gigantic. Nali also does not have what appears to be a potbelly that most Charizard have – if anything, she’s more like an oversized lizard, though with proportionally longer legs. And the wings – Nali’s wings are also larger, each easily twice the area of her body. Her wingspan is huge, maybe eight or nine feet fully extended, and she stands at about four feet. Naturally, Nali needs… quite a bit of room. She usually likes to keep to more open areas where she can fly, though she isn’t adverse to lizard-crawling everywhere. This is helped by her large toes and claws, which have developed to be longer and more slender than normal Charizards.
Even taking this into account, Nali does not particularly resemble a normal Charizard. Her scales are, rather than orange and tan, a pure snow white with green accents (two shades of green, actually). Certain markings on her face, upper arms and legs, tail, and back are mint green, mostly stripes. The leathery skin of her wings is a deeper, more emerald green, the same color as her eyes (with vertical slit pupils) and the fire burning on her tail (actually, all fire she produces, but anyway). She also has blocks of this same emerald color where most charizards have a tan underbelly, as well as accents on the tips of her horns, face, lower arms and legs, and back, with accenting the lighter green stripes she also has. Also, she has a purple-fuchsia Life Orb embedded into her forehead, which glows whenever she launches an attack, siphons her own health to give her attacks more power, and makes her look even weirder.
TL;DR: Nali looks weird.
Gift none
Talent(s) Smacking people around. That’s a good one. Nali is also extraordinarily good at flying, able to remain in the air for hours before touching down again, expertly manipulating things like updrafts and tailwinds to keep herself aloft with minimum effort. She’s also quite acrobatic in the air when the need arises, and isn’t exactly slow on the ground either. Also, she has an ability to sense the presence of others through their heat, similar to other reptiles.
Personality Let’s put this simply. Nali is not a nice person to be around. She is rude, coarse, and violent. Easily aggravated and not one to mince words, she gives a whole new meaning to hot-tempered with her constant resorting to violence and fire. Usually both at the same time. Rather suspicious and paranoid of any and all outsiders, Nali is just not pleasant. However, to those she likes and is fond of (few, mostly dead or in the Fireworks Gang), Nali is easier to get along with. That’s not to say she becomes a saint, because, well, Nali’s physically incapable of doing so. While still gruff and emotionally stunted, Nali is more good-natured and somewhat cheerful, though she still derives her amusement from the expense/pain of others. Can’t have everything.
Nali is gruff and somewhat lacking when it comes to the capability to express her emotions. Also, very proud of her own abilities, to the point that she’s perfectly willing to smack someone upside the head at a moment’s notice, should they doubt her strength. She also hides an insecurity over her odd appearance, and is rather touchy about it as well. Beyond that, Nali is unexpectedly clever, though it’s mostly about the things that interest her – the best way to smack someone around, how to make explosives, so on and so forth. Not that most people bother to realize this, as they don’t ask and she doesn’t tell them.
The darkest part of Nali is probably her own dark, suicidal tendencies. As a young Charmander, Nali’s tail flame was extinguished and she nearly died, as Charmanders need their tail flame to keep their bodies warm and moving. Although Nali was revived, ever since then she has been downright cold and bitchy, and has a constant, quiet obsession with death. It’s not uncommon for her to believe that she should have died then and there, as most Charmanders would have. Sometimes she does have nightmares of this, among other experiences, but she point-blank refuses to tell anyone out of pride and stubbornness. If there’s anything Nali hates, it’s to seem weak.
History Nali, or, as she was then called, Rachael, was born in a lab in distant Orre, where scientists were researching a way to change the pigmentations of Pokemon. She was one of the second batch of “starter” Pokemon whose coloration were modified, along with a Squirtle named Twill and a Treecko named Truant. Although she was never on good terms with Twill, considering him annoying and childish, she cultivated a crush on Truant. Like all children, Rachael acted on it by teasing and bullying him around. This did not go over well with Twill, who misinterpreted it and one day ended up putting out her tail flame, which nearly caused her to die.
Twill was shipped away, but Rachael avoided Truant ever since, eventually the other Pokemon and researchers as well, becoming incredibly isolated. Worried for her mental health, they made arrangements for her to be taken in by a kindhearted trainer living in Phenac. This trainer essentially forced Rachael to open up through sheer force of personality. Upon finding that Rachael’s depression stemmed mostly from isolation and her near-brush with death, the trainer taught Rachael how to battle and defend herself, as well as befriending Rachael. Also, Rachael evolved into a Charmeleon. For a while, things were good.
Then Cipher came along. As one of the more prominent trainers in Orre, Rachael’s was targeted. She was captured and, rather than Shadowfication, one of the researchers found Rachael’s odd coloration interesting enough to run some more experiments on the side. They also renamed her Magnalium (mostly because one of the aides was named Rachael and it got too confusing), probably because they were boring scientist people. Although never out-and-out cruel, Magnalium was never happy, mostly because a lot of the experiments had to do with her battling power and tended to hurt. Most notable was the fact that they gave her a Life Orb in order to supplement her strength, which Magnalium disliked on principle. Eventually, Magnalium evolved, though something – we’re not sure what – caused her body to mutate further from a typical Charizard. Cipher found this fascinating but not really relevant. At some point some genius decided it would be a great idea to embed the Life Orb into Magnalium’s forehead. This might have had to do with the way she constantly “dropped” it during combat.
Eventually, when the Inter-Regional League stormed into Orre to kick Cipher’s ass for the second time, Magnalium was one of the Pokemon who managed to escape the labs, both Cipher’s and the League’s own. She flew across the strait that separated Orre from the mainland and further, eventually landing in Sootopolis by some convenient twist of destiny. She fell in with the Fireworks Gang, who shortened her name to Nali and took her in as one of their own.
Other As stated, formerly went by Rachael but is since known mostly as Nali. Few call her either Rachael or Magnalium. Has some animosity towards Twill of the Tsunami Gang, or, well, would if they meet again. Due to the Rule of Drama, they almost certainly will. Believes her Life Orb is killing her, which it may well be through constant contact with her.
