TALENTS:
Dragoon has no talents worth noting, other than copious experience. As a somewhat 'middle-aged' Pokemon, he has seen multiple scenarios and as such he is a gifted strategist. While he may have possessed the ability to glide (or possibly fly) during his youth, his long since tattered fins have failed him in that regard. He is agile and extremely fit for his age however he does not possess any outward talents that make him special.
PERSONALITY:
Dragoon is a character straight out of the old west. Honourable, stubborn and chivalrous, his goal is to stamp out injustice wherever he finds it. While he does not play traditional Russian Roulette, Dragoon is a high-risk, high-return kind of Pokemon. His battle style is not unlike the game-play of poker star - he tends to put on a serious face before he surprises his opponent. While some have considered him a bit of an old timer, he is a zealous and energetic presence, although he does have the tendency to be a bit stiff and old fashioned. Despite his stubbornness and sometimes brutish demeanor, he is well-intentioned vigilante looking for belonging.
As a child, Dragoon had always been taught by his trainer to be tough. Initially a shy and withdrawn little Pokemon, he grew into a headstrong thrill seeker with a knack for adventure. Being raised by a rigid middle-aged man forced Dragoon to mature and man up very quickly. With military precision, he was trained to be a confident leader (he picked up a few quirks and quarks along the way). Still, Dragoon suffers a bit of anxiety. At times when he feels unsure of himself, he tries to mask his insecurity with silence and a straight face. Following his trainer's example, he tries to move forward without looking back.
Having been raised by an old-fashioned man also taught Dragoon about chivalry and the code of honour. He was told he must be fearless so that he could face danger and protect those he cared about. From this Dragoon developed a very strong sense of loyalty - he became the cheesy superhero that would gladly give his life for someone else. One might argue that his pride has the potential to disrupt more appropriate actions (say, running away), but Dragoon refuses to back down no matter the challenge. That being the case, he is a Pokemon who rarely complains and isn't afraid to get his claws dirty for a noble purpose.
While he has the tendency to look down on younger males for their lack of experience (he himself had his trainer's code of etiquette deeply ingrained within him), he is incredibly courteous to females - so much so that one could argue that he is a bit of a womanizer. His actions are always well-intentioned, although his special politeness is a testament to his loneliness. Still, he is strict about a knightly code of conduct and he tries to push his silly feelings to the side.
Eager to instruct and to engage himself in new adventures, he doesn't let his age ruin his sense of fun and purpose.
DESCRIPTION:
Dragoon is a lean and incredibly muscular Garchomp. While some accuse him of being old, his body is in miraculous shape (despite the fact that his true age is not clear). His neck and limbs are unusually long but considerably stocky. Like any Garchomp, his body is covered with familiar cobalt scales and he possesses a red underbelly with a hint of yellow on his nose and stomach. Dark rings etch his ankles, horns, underside and tail, although they are mostly unremarkable (and common).
Perhaps less familiar are Dragoon's torn fins and his scarred chest and face. After countless struggles, his fins (one on each forearm and a large, sturdy one on his back) have been significantly marred. While the skin itself has toughened and endured serious injuries, Dragoon is no longer able to glide or fly. As such, he is forced to rely on jumping and as a result his legs are incredibly powerful.
Dragoon possesses two notable scars on his body. The first scar wreaks havoc across the left side of his face. Weaving in and out in the shape of a creeping lightning bolt, the scar extends from the centre of his forehead through his left eye. Luckily, the yellow eye itself was unharmed. Dragoon's second scar cuts across his lean chest in an 'x' shape. Looking as if he'd taken one too many X-Scissor attacks, this scar is deeply engraved in his skin and more visible than the one on his face. Sensitive about his cuts, he refuses to discuss them unless his listener is truly ready to hear the tale.
As a final touch, Dragoon is adorned with a tattered orange scarf. Presumably from a past partner, it is wrapped loosely around his neck. Not quite centred, his scarf has two tails, one of which is significantly longer than the other. Based on his appearance, one would assume that Dragoon belonged in an ancient action movie - muscular body, rugged looks, and all.
HISTORY:
Given that Dragoon is an older Pokemon, he has endured much in his lifetime. Born in the distant land of Sinnoh, his later journeys with his old trainer, Ranger, had brought him to Sootopolis. Ranger too had been a well aged man for a trainer; he was roughly 45 years old, brash, and stubborn as the day was long. He specialized in training Ground Pokemon, and Dragoon had been a special treat. Yearning for a rare dragon type, he caught Dragoon at a very tender age when he was still a lowly Gible.
Spending the better part of fifteen years with his Pokemon, he raised Dragoon from a little tyke to a respectable, fully evolved creature. The two were inseparable. Dragoon had won many battles and had earned himself a championship title in his time. Those were blissful times. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. Shortly after he turned 60, Ranger suffered a brutal heart attack. The fluky accident occurred shortly after he'd been inducted to the Hall of Fame in Sinnoh. Sadly, his health began to wain after the incident and shortly after he passed away. Dragoon was given the task of living out the rest of his life without regrets. While he mourned the loss of his trainer, he sought out a new beginning for himself - one that Ranger would be proud of.
Landing in Sootopolis after some questionable transportation (he often had to adorn himself with elaborate disguises to board a traditional ship), Dragoon looked to the life of a wild Pokemon for the time being. Hearing of the city's demise from travelers, he had long since been curious about the current state of the city and its intriguing, albeit explosive, population of Pokemon. More interestingly, he learned that these Pokemon had divided into factions.
Desperate for answers and a new start, Dragoon jumped at the chance to explore Sootopolis. Unsure of what would await him, he wondered if he could find a new family, a new purpose, and a new sense of belonging.
