Aya
Purugly; female
Possesses the Thick Fat ability
Is of a Mild Nature(+Sp. Attack, -Defense)
An Expert Belt is equipped to her, tied into her hair as a bow to the left (her left).
Moveset:
Hypnosis / Dream Eater / Secret Power / Water Pulse / Hidden Power(electric) / Sucker Punch / Toxic / Shadow Ball / Shadow Claw
She is not currently a member of any gang or guild.
Appearance:
If not for her hair, Aya would not be particularly different from any standard purugly. Most of the things different about her are subtle. Firstly, she has markings of black fur which standard puruglys do not posses. This fur is present over her eyes, on the inside of her ears, in three rounded stripes on her back, and at the tips of her forked tail. There is also dark grey-blue fur that appears on the toes and bottoms of her hind feet and as fringe on her hindquarters, as well as on her cheeks where her whiskers protrude from. Her general markings are slightly different from the standard, though if one looked closely one would see that pokémon are never really of the exact same appearance as one another. Where markings are not present, her fur is more of a grey-purple than simply grey. Secondly, her fur is very straight. There is rarely a hair out of place, and this is most obvious in her tail, which is not covered in curly, puffy hair – the norm – but silky, rigidly straight hair – the result of strenuous grooming on her once owner's part. This extends to her whiskers, which are not crooked.
The most striking difference is that Aya has a “hairdo” of bangs and extensions beneath the base of her ears. Aya's owner had been very keen on having unique looking pokémon. She went through the trouble of paying a groomer friend of hers to grow out Aya's fur in a particular way. The groomer liked to play around with the idea of being a pokémon sorceress and so cast a spell on the purugly to grow out her fur. Of course, she did not know what she was doing. While the intended effect was achieved there were some side effects.
Gift:
Special ability to devour the dreams of others.
Much like a drowzee, Aya can subsist almost entirely on dreams. She doesn't like doing this as she considers it a huge personal invasion, however she has noticed that if she goes too long without eating a single dream she feels like she got run over by a truck. So every two weeks she eats one dream. She possesses some other abilities similar to drowzees, such as recalling every dream she eats and sharing them with others, but she cannot sense what kind of dreams her prey are having. She enjoys interesting and inventive dreams the best, so she takes the dreams of pokémon she thinks would have creative imagery in them. Usually she likes to get to know her prey before taking their dream.
Talent:
Aya is outstandingly talented with special attacks, even though puruglys are normally more physical. She can still use physical attacks effectively, but she doesn't practice with them and would much rather use a special attack if possible. As a result, she is not very good with close combat, and is less bulky than one would expect a purugly to be. She can soak up special attacks fairly well, though, and her Dream Eater attack is monstrously powerful.
Personality:
Unlike most puruglys, Aya is not a bully. She with never start fights, but she will most certainly finish them. She doesn't like to try too hard for a win, though, so she mostly beats her opponent around a little and then leaves. Even if she is pursued, she won't continue the fight unless she's cornered. Once she is done with you, she's done.
She seems generally apathetic and isn't very expressive – except that she often complains of boredom – but she's actually quite open about her feelings if she's asked. Even so, she's still not very expressive. Her tone is dreary and she always notes the bleakest aspects of any situation, not to mention that she always looks like she's utterly disinterested. In fact, Aya is usually in a good mood, though what qualifies as a good mood for her is another story.
Generally speaking she's kind, if not particularly friendly. If she considers someone a friend she'll be happy to hang out with them and help them in some ways, but she won't fight their battles for them. Aya believes that everyone is perfectly capable of taking care of themselves (and if they aren't they should learn) and won't intervene on behalf of anyone unless things get physical. Even then, she will only interfere if the friend in question is outmatched. She's not touchy-feely but she's loyal and will do almost anything for someone she cares about. To those she doesn't like she can be venomous, but she will mostly just ignore them and try not to get involved with them at all.
Regardless of how she treats you, one thing is constant. She is not impressed by you. Aya seems to be impossible to shake. Her numb affect is possibly a result of whatever she experienced while under the effects of the spell, but she has never been easy to awe. Instead of wonder, confusion, or shock, she usually responds with dry sarcasm. Still, she seems to enjoy going out and trying to get into unusual situations to entertain herself, so she wanders all over Sootopolis indiscriminately.
History:
Breeders make lots of money if they sell popular pokémon that people like to keep as pets. Aya was born to a purugly mother and a persian father. Both parents were very high class, pure blooded show pokémon. The breeder crossbred them to see if he could have a glameow that would retain it's thin and limber form as a purugly. He trained all of the litter until they evolved, but his experiment was not successful. Regardless, they were the offspring of top quality parents and sold for a pretty penny. Thus, Aya came under the ownership of a young woman who planned to use her for contests.
The woman treated her like royalty, but she was not entirely spoiled. She underwent rigorous exercise and was trained not to wrap her tails around her waist, as puruglys instinctively do. The breeder had recognized her talent with special attacks and passed this information onto the woman, who nurtured her talent. Although the training was hard, Aya was very happy and loved her owner. Everyday she was made to follow a very strict schedule dictating the specific times at which she would wake up, eat, train, and sleep. Every minute of her day was mapped out for her. At first Aya did not mind. After all, she loved her owner and was grateful for all the wonderful toys, food, and special attention she received – but soon she became unhappy with her monotonous existence.
Looking for an escape from the life she started to resent, she began to sneak out at night. She had often peered outside her window before bed to see the stray pokémon outside. The birds which visited occasionally told her what sort of antics they got up to, and she became curious. Her first night out taught her a valuable lesson. She had innocently wandered into the territory of a vicious gang of electrike and was badly beaten. While trying to explain that she was not trying to cause trouble, they confused her and managed to trick her into saying something that would justify their attack. The next morning she limped home and thought she would never wander out again. After she recovered, she discovered that the draw of such an unpredictable lifestyle was too strong, and she continued to sneak out.
Aya became known in the small area she frequented for being a pampered pet that could hold her own against hardened street pokémon. She enjoyed the time she spent out and about but always returned faithfully to her home. The woman began to talk of entering Aya into her first contest. The preparations in the weeks leading up to the contest were hectic and filled with little surprises that pleased Aya so that she stopped going out at night. She was made to battle with other pokémon for practice, and the woman was surprised that she was good at it, the result of several street fights she had gotten into. But, as is the case with contests, pure skill was not enough to win. The woman wanted to add some flair to their appeals, something to make her and her pokémon stand out. She paid a groomer friend to give Aya a unique look.
The groomer fancied herself a sorceress and decided to try a spell just for kicks. It backfired horribly, and ended up sending Aya into a coma. While in it, Aya experienced something odd, which changed her forever. Whether it was merely a dream or not is unsure, even to herself, but when she awoke three weeks later her entire demeanor was different She had become the bleak, dry, and detached pokémon she is today. She also gained her dream related abilities. No longer interested in continuing her life on the same path, she escaped from her owner while they were on a vacation in Sootopolis.
It's been five months since she first arrived and she's still learning some things. She hasn't gotten into anything really interesting yet, but she is sure she will have some strange experiences while she is here.
