Gift:
Church Grim
There are two parts to Renard's gift, both given to him by his ghostly state. The first is the ability to protect any benign soul from outside harm. It works almost as an automatic form of Protect- a barrier will block any attack, danger, etc. of the nearby being. It does not cure not prevent injury from danger brought inside however, like wounds or sickness. On top of that, it only activates within a certain vincity. Oh, and he's spiritually bound to that vincity.
The second part is more of a curse than a gift. Renard is physically unable to move outside of the east area of Origin Cave, bound by his body. Also, he can only manifest either at night or when the sky is cast over with clouds. If one would cause him to faint or use Sunny Day (which is rather ironic, considering his typing), he would vanish and not re-appear until the conditions are right and he had recovered. When his soul is not manifested in this world, those nearby are not under his protection. He must be visible for them to be under his effect.
Personality:
Renard does not have the personality one might expect of a ghost. For one, he is extremely naive, slightly childish, and rather slow to understand, well, most everything. Therefore, he still doesn't quite understand why everyone is so afraid of him. Nor exactly why he was killed. Nor why he can't move very far. You could tell him just about any lie and he'd believe it if the evidence wasn't obvious. If you ask him why he's like the way he is, he probably won't know what to say. Like I said, he is very slow.
He does make up for this flaw, however. Renard has a strong sense of protection, and would willingly give his life (if he still had one) for a helpless Pokemon he had only seen for a few seconds. Okay, in a sense this is another flaw if he isn't careful. But what comes with this is a kind, gentle nature. Once you get past the semi-transparent body, the glowing eyes, and chill down your spine if he "touches" you, he's really a big, fluffy teddy bear inside. He's always willing to listen, give comfort, and help in any way he can.
When meeting someone for the first time, Renard usually greets them with a smile and a friendly welcome. Except, now that he's dead, if his basic appearance doesn't scare someone away, his "smile" usually does. When he's lucky enough to encounter someone brave enough to confront him, he remains rather outgoing. He doesn't have anything to loose, anyways.
Description:
Renard's appearance has... changed since he was alive. The color of his fur is hard to distinguish- the dark shade makes his body appear to be a silhouette at times, but if one looked closely they might notice a greenish tint. His body is devoid of the typical stripes of an Arcanine, and his fluffy mane is the same color as the rest of his body. Speaking of his mane, the trailing ends have been braided together, as has his whole entire tail. His eyes no longer take the basic shape of his species- they now resemble glowing, red orbs that are rather menacing. He has no visible mouth anymore, but he can somehow "speak" in a way. His voice is deep and a bit rough (not to mention it echos now), but gentle. Oh, but he still has the ability to smile- his "grin" consists of several white, vertical lines making a crescent pattern across his muzzle.
There's also another side effect to his ghostly form- his body is transparent. Scenery can be seen through his body, and any object will pass straight through him without any resistance. Because of this, he is incapable of using physical attacks and must resort to Special and Status ones instead. His only immunity remains as Normal type attacks instead of all physical ones, however, as they tend to have other effects that can harm him without piercing his body.
History:
During his living hours, Renard lived in a wide, open plain in a region a good distance away from Hoenn (probably Kanto), born to two others of his species. He was respected by the other Pokemon living there, and took on a "big brother" status among them; they admired how he was always optimistic and how he seemed to constantly have a sparkle of playfulness in his blue eyes. Humans hadn't bothered the area for some time.
The situation changed like a slap to the face.
Renard doesn't remember the details of his past. One day, humans did find their way into his haven. Unaware of the dangers, he put up a playful chase. He was caught in some kindof rough web as he was leaping a steep hillside. There was a lot of jostling and darkness. Unfortunately, it is the minutes right before his death he remembers the clearest.
The humans who had captured him were holding some sort of ritual. They braided his tail and mane, kept him bound and chained, lead him to the north side of a strange, pointy building. Many held white sticks lit with fire, some carried pieces of crossed wood. They stopped at a large pit, surrounded by even more men.
They buried him alive.
It took Renard a while to realize he was dead. Or, really, not quite dead. By then, many years had passed and the building was mostly abandoned. He could pass through the toothpicks of trees scattered around, but could not move outside of the ledge. On top of that, the Physical attacks he once knew were no longer effective. Over the decades, he taught himself new tactics and moves that would support the title given to him by his death. Time flew by for him, but as the ages passed the church broke down and collapsed. The land became populated. And Renard is still stuck in this world with no escape. Well, at least he made the best of the situation, deeming himself the guardian for those in need. Yanno, if those in need don't run away.
"Don't worry... I'll protect you."
